Kashubian is a language from the West-Slavic group of the Slavic branch of the Indo-European languages. It is closely related with Czech, Slovak, Sorbian and Polish. Kashubian is understood by apprimately 150,000 Kashubian people in Poland, in the region to the west and south of Gdańsk, but actively spoken by only circa 50,000 people. In this region Kashubian has the status of a regional language. According to UNESCO, Kashubian is considered an endangered language
